Recently, I was not only stalked, but harassed and wrongly given tickets for an "open bottle of alcohol in public" and for having My dog off the leash in the park. First, the bottle of alcohol was a Grolsh beer that had an UNBROKEN seal on it (of course, these plebian cops had never seen a Grolsh before). I bought the beer to make My fabulous tomato sauce (just gave a recipe secret away) at a store that is not close to My apartment, so I purchased it on the dog walk and was on My way home. Second, I was in the park after 9pm when it is legal to have a dog off-leash. I got the ticket for the dog off-leash when I asked the stupid, little-dick-syndrome rookie for his badge number, which is My legal right. On top of all of these LIES and offenses by this crookie-rookie, 12 COPS CAME OVER TO "assist" ~ gee, is this why Y/you can never find a cop when Y/you need one? The "assisters" looked at this idiot with disgust and several even pet My wonderful dog. The creep and his partner then proceeded to give My friend ~ a Black man (the main target of police offenses) ~ 2 tickets - one for "littering" because he had a lit cigarette and they wanted to know where he was going to put it, and one for an "open bottle of alcohol in public", which was the same, SEALED bottle that I received a ticket for. The creepazoid that gave Me tickets told Me that he would be happy if I contested them because then he would have a "tour on day shift" and that he would not have to work a night shift. I want a refund for this waste of tax dollars and oxygen.
Amazingly, the very next day I got a phone call from some organization -- now, My phone number is on the "do-not-call-list" -- wanting money, of course, and stating that since the beginning of the year, 5 police officers have already been killed. I was outraged that I was being annoyed at home and disgusted on every level by the injustice I'd experienced the prior evening. My response was, "And I have absolutely NO sympathy at this time" before I slammed the phone onto the receiver. What bothers Me is that this is how I feel. I was never this Person (and I don't like that I have been pushed to this point too many times in My lifetime); I've always had sympathy for police officers because even though the corruption of the badge is deplorable, they have very difficult jobs that show the true ugliness of people. I have always felt sorry for the families of cops who have to pray every day that their loved ones come home unharmed and alive. I won't even date a cop or a fireperson for that very reason -- especially after losing more than a few friends on 9/11. However, this increasing and constant harassment by droves of rookies terrorizing My and other gentrifying neighborhoods is stripping all consideration for cops in the areas that they need it the most. Why isn't anyone at the police academy teaching these clueless creatures that respect must be earned and that it is not a "given" -- especially in neighborhoods where cops are seen as "the enemy"? They could certainly benefit from My Motto: don't start none, won't be none. Which brings Me to the event on August 3, 2007 called MOVE, a town hall meeting to stop police brutality ~ www.imagenation.us ~ dedicated to Sean Bell (This is a NY Times article which is surprisingly neutral). I'm thrilled that the sponsors are businesses and organizations that are not specifically "Black", but are interested in justice. Just so those who don't know are aware, the event is held in St. Nicholas Park, which these days, is a neighborhood that is quite gentrified -- that means there are a lot of White people living there and a lot of police protecting them. So, don't be afraid to come out and learn. The only good thing from My experience is that My friends of all different races are offended on levels that they can't even understand. They hear about these things, but have never experienced them and My recent offense has been their rude awakening. Most people who are not Of Color despise Al Sharpton for always bringing this subject to light and My friends are freaked out that they can now relate to the FACT that Al is telling the truth. Well, keep shining that light, Al.

Thankfully, Senator Kuehl understands how important the human–animal bond is. The legislation She authored would include pets in domestic violence protection orders, and is an important step in preventing abusers from using pets to threaten their victims. If passed, California will join the states of Maine, Vermont and New York in leading the charge against domestic violence.
